About Sweet Lemon Kitchen
Rachel Cummins made her first pie crust at four years old, learning from her Scottish mother and grandmother, both accomplished bakers. She spent five years as a self-taught cottage baker before enrolling at the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts in Austin. In 2014, she and her husband Kevin converted a historic home at 812 S Church St in downtown Georgetown into an inn, and by 2016 the ground floor had become Sweet Lemon Kitchen. The inn closed in 2019 to make room for growth, dinner service was added in 2020, and the kitchen moved to full table-side dining in 2022, expanding into the home's upstairs rooms.
Breakfast and lunch run Tuesday through Sunday, with dinner added Wednesday through Saturday from 4:30 to 8:30pm. The kitchen bakes from scratch daily: cinnamon rolls, kolaches, scones and quiche share the pastry case, and lunch brings gourmet sandwiches like the turkey club croissant and the chipotle chicken, plus salads such as the turkey Cobb and a house salad topped with candied pecans and Texas goat cheese. Chef Darwer Ozuna's Sweet Lemon "Pepito," a riff on a Venezuelan street sandwich, sits alongside dinner entrees like beef bourguignon and chicken pot pie in puff pastry. The cafe pours a signature cream latte finished with honey, lavender, maple or raspberry white chocolate syrup, and the bar pours a house Sweet Lemon Shandy made with Rentsch Hefeweizen and their own lemonade.
The restaurant occupies a converted historic house on Georgetown's town square, with a large outdoor patio that became a neighborhood fixture during the pandemic and remains one of the most requested seats in the dining room. On Saturday afternoons, Sweet Lemon books private English-inspired tea parties for up to 35 guests, complete with fine china service. The Cummins family has since opened The Little Lemon, a grab-and-go sister cafe inside the Georgetown Public Library. Georgetown voters have named Sweet Lemon among the city's best for eight years running, including a Gold Award for Best Lunch Spot six years running.
