About Brookwood in Georgetown

Brookwood in Georgetown is a God-centered vocational and residential community for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, operating an award-winning cafe and retail gift shop where Citizens work, create, and sell their unique handmade products. The cafe serves delicious coffees, breakfast items, and a full lunch menu in an upscale, inviting atmosphere with clearly labeled gluten-free options and turfed outdoor seating. The gift shop features handcrafted pottery, unique greeting cards, handmade jewelry, and artisan products created by the Citizens. Each item represents meaningful work that validates dignity, respect, and independence for individuals who often have no place in society to learn and contribute after high school.

Beyond the cafe and shop, Brookwood operates a comprehensive vocational program that educates, trains, and supports Citizens in an encouraging, interdependent environment through enterprises chosen for their adaptability and marketability. The organization is expanding with Grace Place by BiG, a residential community under construction in Weir (six miles from the main campus) that will provide permanent homes for 80 Citizens plus staff at full capacity.

Visitors often express amazement at discovering a gorgeous, professional, upscale space with a profound mission. The organization supports a population that faces unique barriers to employment and belonging. Every purchase directly funds meaningful work and builds community for adults with disabilities.
